Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV-UV) Positive & Negative Meniscus Lenses are available in select VUV Grade Calcium Fluoride (CaF2) for a wide range of VUV to UV optical applications including VUV through UV instrumentation or VUV to UV lasers. VUV-UV CaF2 Positive & Negative Meniscus Lenses have two spherical surfaces with different Radii curved outward (Convex) and curved inward (Concave).
VUV CaF2 Positive Meniscus Lenses (convex-concave design), which are thicker in the middle than at the edges, cause light rays to converge and are designed to minimize third-order spherical aberration. When used to focus a collimated beam, the convex side of the lens should face the source to minimize spherical aberration. They are often used in conjunction with other lenses to decrease the focal length, and therefore increase the numerical aperture (NA) of a VUV-UV optical assembly. As positive meniscus lenses have a greater radius of curvature on the concave side of the lens than on the convex side, real images can be formed.
VUV CaF2 Negative Meniscus Lenses (concave-convex design), which are thinner in the middle than at the edges, cause light rays to diverge and are designed to minimize third-order spherical aberration. When used to diverge light, the convex surface should face the beam to minimize spherical aberration. They are often used in conjunction with other lenses to increase the focal length, and therefore decrease the numerical aperture (NA) of a VUV-UV optical assembly.

VUV Grade Calcium Fluoride (CaF2): CaF2 exhibits good transmission properties from ~ 145nm Vacuum UV (VUV) to ~ 8.0um in the Infrared. CaF2 is a relatively soft crystalline material and care should be taken as CaF2 is sensitive to mechanical and thermal shock. CaF2 is a cubic single crystal optical material.
